Brandon Volunteers

Brandon Elementary is a public school that we partner closely with to celebrate teachers, students, and their families. Each student represents, first and foremost, an image bearer who is known and loved by their creator. They also represent a family that needs to know the love and hope of Christ.

Brandon Mentor

Brandon mentors get to spend time once a week for 45 minutes the same day and time each week. The time is chosen by the mentor according to their convenience any day other than Thursday.

Ministry Responsibilities

  • Read the provided book each week
  • Play provided game/activity
  • Talk to your mentee about their week, how studies are going, are they trying their best, etc.
  • Show the love and care of Christ
  • All materials are provided to you each week when you arrive
  • No teaching ability required – simple instructions are provided

Monthly Teacher Appreciation

This is a great opportunity for a LIFE GROUP to adopt. There are currently 38 total faculty and Staff at Brandon. Once each month, we seek to bless these hard-working teachers and staff with a small blessing to encourage

Ministry Responsibilities

  • Small gift (ie homemade treat, candy, etc.)
  • A note for each faculty/staff member letting them know we are praying for them and appreciate their hard work them and let them know we are praying for them. This means so much to each of them.
  • Coordinate with HHBC Missions Staff to deliver to us OR directly to Brandon

Transitional Greeter

Brandon Transition Greeters are present in the hallways as students arrive/transition to other classes to smile, greet, care for students and teachers. This is an opportunity to be a stable, regular presence in the lives of all students, faculty, and staff of Coston to build relational bridges for deeper connection. It also ministers to a short-staffed faculty.

 

Ministry Responsibilities

  • This role exists merely to be a stable presence that students and teachers can interact with on a regular base
  • Smile, greet, encourage all students and ask them about their day
  • Weekly Investment: As often as you have time; as little at 15-20 minutes per time

Fall Festival Volunteer

Brandon Fall Festival volunteers get to interact with students, teachers, and their families during each holiday in a much more laid-back, fun environment. We’ll play games, make crafts, and get to knowBrandon on a more relational level during the school day of October 31st.

Ministry Responsibilities

  • Spend time getting to know students and their families
  • Speak hope and truth into this holiday
  • Be a light for Christ
  • Simple games (ring toss, relay race, limbo, etc.)

Ministry to Internationals

In a time when the nations are coming to the United States like never before, we believe this is an opportunity to love and care for these international populations with the love of Jesus who loved us when we were still far from him. This is especially true when many of those coming are from countries where the gospel has not traveled widely.

Angelina College Partnership

We have the opportunity this Fall to partner with Angelina College in welcoming 45 international students to Lufkin. There are several ways you and your family or Life Group can join with us in this.

ESL Class

ESL (English as a Second Language) Class

This is a new ministry opportunity Harmony Hill is looking to provide in the near future. This will be a time of studying English based on a bible story each week. An example of the curriculum is available for review.

This ESL course will allow us to build connections with lost and unreached peoples right here in our own community. People who have come to the US from very hard to access countries are longing for community and hope, and we can offer it to them with the Truth of scripture and also provide a practical help in helping them learn English so they can thrive while simultaneously offering them the hope of the Gospel.

 

Ministry Responsibilities

  • Have simple English conversations with beginner English speakers
  • Build deep relationships with internationals that extend even outside of this course
  • Share the gospel with people who may have never heard it before
  • Speak slowly and clearly
  • Listen well and with grace
  • Care well, learning about and giving grace for cultural differences

Buckner

Buckner is one agency in our area that assists with foster care and adoption placement as well as a myriad of other ministries for foster families as well as single parents who need services Buckner is able to provide.

Certified Respite Care

Serve as a short-term babysitter for foster families. This can range anywhere from a few hours up to 72 hours so that foster parents can get some respite or even travel in the case of a family emergency there their foster placement is not allowed to travel out of state with their family. This is a huge blessing to foster families and a huge need.

  • Care for children placed in your care
  • Care for and pray for foster families whom you serve
  • Represent Christ and Harmony Hill to foster families in our area

    • FBI fingerprinting
    • Some other trainings provided by Buckner
